Following the community consultation on the future of Burgess Hill that was carried out in 2004, the Burgess Hill into the Future Action Plan has now been finalised. It has been adopted by the Town Council and will form the basis of the Council’s ongoing work, along with its partner organisations. A copy of the Action Plan is available to download at the end of this page.

Although the work of the Steering Group has been completed, a smaller group will continue to regularly review progress and ensure implementation.  It is envisaged that the plan will be a living document which can be added to over time as new issues and opportunities arise.

A number of the issues you raised have already been addressed. Some of the achievements to date include:

The police have tackled anti-social behaviour in the town centre by using Section 30 orders.

The police and Trading Standards have been cracking down on the sale of alcohol to under-age young people.

Residents who expressed interest in the future of the Keymer Tileworks site were invited to attend planning workshops.

A second Mobile Management Team has been formed to deal with “housekeeping issues” and to improve the appearance of the town.

The Town Council’s Mobile Maintenance Team has taken on a “trouble shooting” role for the District and County Councils to provide a quicker response to problems around the town.

The grass cutting frequency has been increased by the District Council.

The Town Council’s response to the South East Plan Consultation was formulated on the basis of residents’ responses – particularly with regard to overcoming infrastructure deficiencies and retaining the compact nature of the town.
