Burgess Hill Business Park Clean Up
Burgess Hill Town Council, in conjunction with Burgess Hill Business Parks Association and Sussex Police, has over the last three years undertaken an environmental ‘Clean-Up’ initiative in Victoria and Sheddingdean Business Parks. The aim of the initiative is to improve the street scene for both business parks. A visual audit was undertaken by Burgess Hill Town Council, which highlighted a number of issues ranging from litter to overgrown vegetation.
The Town Council’s Mobile Maintenance Team, with partner organisations, were brought in to cut back vegetation and edge up verges at various locations around the business park as well as undertaking a litter pick. Sussex Police took the opportunity to undertake speed checks and monitor irresponsible parking. VOSA (Vehicle & Operator Services Agency) also attended and checked for red diesel and roadworthiness of vehicles to comply with road traffic legislation. To help with the issue of litter, the Business Parks Association has kindly agreed to sponsor some litter bins on both business parks.
Not all of the issues were on public land and many areas in the business parks were the responsibility of land owners and managing agents. Businesses were encouraged to join this initiative to help bring about the environmental improvements.
Chris Thomas-Atkin, Chairman of Burgess Hill Town Council, said “Burgess Hill Town Council, as founding sponsor of the Burgess Hill Business Parks Association, is committed to continuing to develop our relationship with the business community. The Clean-Up initiative was one example of our partnership and it is vital that the appearance of the Business Parks create a positive impression.”
Peter Liddell, Business Parks Co-ordinator, said “We were delighted with the efforts made by Burgess Hill Town Council in sending out teams to tidy up the business parks of Burgess Hill. Members are pleased with the results and are aware that we are trying to maintain high standards in our working environment. It is another great example of what can be achieved by working together; the Burgess Hill Business Parks Association is proud to work in partnership with the Town Council.”
