One of the great strengths of Burgess Hill is its vibrant
community spirit. The Town
Council recognises and values the considerable contribution that voluntary
organisations - and volunteers of all ages and from all walks of life -
make to the town. Their work
is supported through the provision of affordable office accommodation and
meeting space at the Community
Resource Centre and Cyprus Hall.
Both facilities are leased to community groups by the Town Council
at reasonable rates. In
addition, the annual Grants
Scheme provides financial support to voluntary organisations and
community groups that benefit local residents.
In
keeping with its philosophy of “making a difference” in the community
the Town Council employs two Community Projects staff. Their role is to
work with a wide range of partners to develop and support community
initiatives in the town. The Tea
Dance, Unemployed Young People’s Drop-in, Domestic
Abuse Drop-in, Gingerbread Group, Peer Support Project, Batchelors
Farm 10th anniversary event, Burgess
Hill in Bloom, town map, corporate brochure, Youth
Website and Town Council Website are just some of the projects they
have recently been involved in. They have also recently become
involved in trying to make Burgess Hill a Fairtrade
Town.
