Sussex Police have
teamed up with Burgess Hill Town Council to tackle anti-social behaviour
in the Burgess Hill and South area. New reporting systems have been
put into place for people who do not want to contact the Police directly
or are frightened of any come back.
Inspector Martin
Pattenden says there is a reluctance to report anti-social behaviour in
the public domain as people are worried about retribution as a
consequence. It would be an advantage if people left their details
for the Police to contact and discuss and they would not divulge a persons
details without their permission. However he would far rather
receive the information anonymously than not at all.
People
think of anti-social behaviour as criminal damage or youths causing
problems but it can also include issues such as persistent dog fouling,
noisy house alarms continually going off, parking issues, persistent
littering or graffiti.
A
collection box has been installed in the Help Point with forms for people
to complete. People can fill the forms in anonymously or if they leave
their details the Help Point will endeavour to acknowledge their enquiry
within ten working days. An email address has also been set up for
residents to report problems to antisocialbehaviour@burgesshill.gov.uk.
Issues
will be passed on to the Police to deal with where appropriate but all the
comments will go to Doreen Rhodes, Anti-Social Behaviour Co-ordinator at
Mid Sussex District Council. It will help the authorities who are
working in partnership to have a better understanding of any problems
going on in the town and to tackle them effectively.
