Our local bee keeper is Paynes Southdown Bee Farm and they can be contacted on 01273 843388.  They will collect "Honey" bees from Burgess Hill, Hassocks and Hurstpierpoint area.  To distinguish, Honey Bees nest in trees or plants or roofs, bumble bees nest under ground.

Information

Help the Aged

Help the Aged produces an advice leaflet on bereavement including information about what to do, support organisations and suggested reading.  These leaflets are available from Help the Aged shops and the Help Point.

Benefits Agency

The Benefits Agency produces a booklet on bereavement, including information on what needs to be done and help that is available.  It also provide s a list of practical advice, support and comfort.  These booklets are available from Burgess Hill Citizens Advice Bureau and the Help Point. 

Registering a death

The Registrar attends Burgess Hill Town Council ’s Help Point twice a week, on Tuesdays (except following a Bank Holiday) and Thursdays from 3-4.00pm .   Registration is by appointment only.  Contact 01444 413415.

Funeral expenses

People in receipt of benefits such as Pension Credit may be eligible for a Social Fund Funeral Payment to help with the cost, although the payment would have to be repaid from any estate of the deceased.  Contact Jobcentre Plus in Boltro Road , Haywards Heath , 01444 338000.  Age Concern England prov ide s funeral plans.

BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT

Mid Sussex Cruse Bereavement Care

Cruse Bereavement Care operates a telephone help line where trained counsellors provide advice and support on Tuesdays between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. and Fridays between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.   An answer phone service is available out of these hours. Get Together

A coffee morning for people recovering from bereavement is held on the last Wednesday of each month from 10.30am to 1pm at William Collins, 43 Station Road .  Contact 01444 871515.

The Way Foundation

 Cooking classes for men

Blue Badge Application Forms

The Blue Badge Scheme provides a national arrangement of parking concessions for people with severe walking difficulties, who travel either as drivers or as passengers.  The Scheme also applies to registered blind people, and people with very sever upper limb disabilities who regularly drive a vehicle but cannot turn a steering wheel by hand.  It allows badge holders to park close to their destination, but these national concessions apply only to on-street parking.

The Blue Badges are issued by West Sussex County Council and information on the scheme and an application form are available on their website www.westsussex.gov.uk.  Alternatively call into the Help Point at 96 Church Walk, Burgess Hill or telephone 01444 247726 for a copy of the application form and guidance notes.

Bluebird Community Transport

Bluebird Community Transport operates a Dial-A-Ride Service for people of any age who are unable to use public transport.

Dial-a-ride - a door-to-door transport service for anyone, whatever their age, who lives in Mid-Sussex, but cannot use public transport due to disability.  Passengers can travel to any destination in Mid Sussex.  Fares vary according to distance travelled.

Group hire - groups which work with disabled people, but cannot afford their own transport, can hire a fully accessible minibus.  This service also provides regular transport for disabled people who require transport to their work.

Car - a fully accessible car which can transport a wheelchair user and escort is available to families who cannot afford to buy their own.

HOSPITAL TRANSPORT

On 2 May 2006, a pilot using the Bluebird Community Partnership voluntary bus will begin operating between the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath and the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton until the end of January 2007.

The bus will make 6 single journeys per day, starting at the Princess Royal Hospital at 08.30, with the last bus leaving the Royal Sussex at 16.00.  This will be a complementary service to the extension of the 40x bus route, and will be primarily for the use of passengers who cannot use local bus services, including those who are frail or with disabilities, and those that require support and accompaniment by a carer.

The cost of the service is £6 per return journey and £4 per single journey.  The Service will be pre-booked through West Sussex County Council's Travel Centre, telephone 01730 815518, and will need to be booked 24 in advance of the appointment.

BUS PASSES – CONCESSIONARY TRAVEL (ALSO KNOWN AS THE SUSSEX COUNTY CARD)

A Sussex Countycard is a free bus pass entitling anyone over 60 who lives in Mid Sussex to free fares on all registered bus journeys in East and West Sussex.  All cards are issued by Mid Sussex District Council and can be used after 9am Monday to Friday and anytime at weekends and Bank Holidays.  

To obtain a free bus pass call into the Help Point with proof of age, proof of address (i.e. Burgess Hill resident and pay your Council Tax to Mid Sussex District Council) and also a Passport size photograph (which gets attached to the bus pass).  The Help Point staff will complete an application form, check your ID documentation and post the application form and photograph to the District Council.  The Bus Pass will be posted direct to you.  The Pass is renewed annually by post.  All new applicants who are unable to use public transport without the aid of a companion will need to provide proof of their disability eg. a signed Doctors letter or proof that they are in receipt of a relevant benefit.

Some residents who live in Burgess Hill pay their Council Tax to Lewes District Council and will therefore need to contact them on the following website East Sussex Concessionary Bus Passes.

BUS SHELTERS

There are two types of bus shelters in Burgess Hill.  Burgess Hill Town Council is responsible for bus shelters which do not have advertising boards on it.  The remaining shelters, i.e. with advertising are the responsibility of Clear Channel, telephone 01730 231115.

If you spot a problem with either type of shelters please take a note of the number of the shelter and contact the Help Point on 01444 247726 or email helppoint@burgesshill.gov.uk.
