CAREERS CENTRE (CONNEXIONS)

However, if you live in Burgess Hill you can arrange to meet a Career Adviser at the Help Point on Fridays between 1pm-5pm.  To arrange an appointment telephone the Connexions Careers Centre on 01403 261465 or call into the Help Point and the staff will be happy to contact Connexions on your behalf.

The Careers Surgery offers a wide range of advice and guidance for people between 13 and 19 years of age.  A Careers Advisor can help you decide which subject to study for your GCSE’s and can also provide information on higher education such as A-levels and university courses.  The Careers Advisors can also help with job searches and provide advice on writing a CV or preparing for an interview.

Connexions also provide a Personal Advice and Guidance Drop In at Park Centre, Park Road, Burgess Hill on Thursdays, all year round, except Christmas holidays. Appointments between 12pm-2pm and Drop In 2pm to 4pm.

CARERS (Mid Downs Crawley , Horsham & Mid Sussex )  

The Mid Sussex Branch of the Carers National Association provides support and regular social events for carers in Mid Sussex and lobbies on their behalf for better help and conditions.  They produce a quarterly newsletter and regular social events for their members.  This group provides valuable support and social opportunities for people who are often isolated and facing considerable demands in their caring roles.   The Carers National Association also operates a telephone advice line 0345 573 369 (local call cost).  Contact the Mid Sussex branch on 01444 232192.

Mid Downs Crossroads Social Club

Crossroads Social Club provides respite care so that carers can either have a break to go shopping etc or they can attend the club while their loved ones are looked after.  It meets every Tuesday at Hassocks Age Concern from 10am-4pm .  Numbers are kept to a maximum of 10-12 people.  The club provides an opportunity for carers who may otherwise feel isolated to come together for support, advice and friendship.   Contact 01403 258015.  

Carers Support Group

The Carers Support Group is for carers and relatives of people with severe or enduring mental health problems.  Meetings are held monthly at Summerfold in Leylands Road, Burgess Hill.

 

Carers Support Service North and Mid Sussex

Carers Support Service provides carers in the Mid Sussex area with an opportunity to share information and problems via a website forum.  The service also provides information packs, leaflets and information on support workers for GP surgeries, as well as a quarterly newsletter covering issues of national and local importance to carers. Carers Allowance

Carers Allowance can be claimed by people who are unable to work full time because they are spending at least 35 hours a week looking after a sick or disabled person who is in receipt of Disability Living Allowance or Attendance Allowance.  The carer may not be able to claim Carers Allowance in full if they are already receiving certain other benefits such as Incapacity Benefit, Retirement Pension, Widow’s Pension or Widow’s Allowance.  The claim forms can be downloaded from the website of the Department of Work and Pensions www.dwp.gov.uk. Carers Emergency Alert Card Scheme

Carers can carry an Emergency Alert Card so that if something happens to them the emergency services will be made aware that they have a dependent.  The scheme is a joint project between ICIS, West Sussex Social and Caring Services, the District and Borough Councils, Emergency Lifeline Services and West Sussex Health Services.  Carers can apply for the card by ringing the ICIS or downloading the form from the ICIS website.  Contact freephone 0800 859929 (voice and text), website www.icis-info4life.org.uk.  

St Peter & St James Hospice Befriender Plus Project

The Befriender Plus Project extends the existing befriending service to support carers of older people with a life-threatening illness in Mid Sussex.  The aim is to give dedicated time to the carer, for approximately 6 weeks, depending on their needs.  The ultimate aim is to relieve carer stress and enable them to maintain their own health, specifically their mental health. The befriender works with the carer and the cared-for in their own home, providing practical help and a signposting service to help the carer access other major services.  Specific programmes of care are tailored to meet the needs of carers from minority groups. Car tax

If you wish to report a vehicle that appears to be unlicensed, the details should be sent in writing to your nearest DVLA Local Office.  To find your nearest DVLA local office please visit their website www.dvla.gov.uk. This may be done anonymously.

The details must include:

  • the registration mark;
  • location of the vehicle;
  • the make/model, colour;

wherever possible, please provide:

  • the time it can be seen on the public road;
  • name and address of the owner;

The information provided can then be used for further investigations by an enquiry Officer who will make a formal sighting of the vehicle and complete a witness statement.  You may also send the details by e-mail at unlic.dvla@gtnet.gov.uk.

CINNAMON TRUST

Composters

Encouraging home composting is a major component in West Sussex County Council's ongoing drive to divert green waste from landfill in partnership with District and Borough Councils and Viridor Waste management.

If you are unemployed and/or on Jobseekers Allowance, the Rewards Agency in Haywards Heath offers free computer courses.  Please contact your local Job Centre for a referral or for further information call Rewards on 01444 413745.  Rewards’ opening times are Monday-Friday 9am-5pm.

A Computer Drop-In Service is available at Newick House School, Birchwood Grove Road, Burgess Hill during the term time on Mondays between 4pm-6pm.  The Drop-In offers free assistance for the over 50’s where staff are on hand if assistance is needed, but they do not run IT courses.  For further information please contact Angela Veitch on 01444 236517 or 01444 233550.
