My
rubbish collection was missed this week. How
can I have it collected?
Refuse
from domestic properties is collected weekly and should be made available
from 7.00am
on your collection day. You
are now required to place your landfill and recycling waste outside the front of your property
in wheelie bins. Refuse and
recycling collections are the responsibility of Mid Sussex District
Council however, if you need to organize a ‘missed collection’ or find
out what day your refuse is due to be pick up, please call the Help Point.
I
have tried putting garden waste out for the dustmen but they will not take
it.
Garden
Waste will only be accepted by the refuse collectors if it is contained in
Mid Sussex District Council garden refuse sacks. You
will need to purchase these from the Help Point. You
just put these out with your household refuse.
The
street light outside my house is not working. How
can I get this fixed?
Very
simply, just call the Help Point. The
majority of street lights in West Sussex
are owned by West Sussex County Council and they have a contractor who
looks after these lights. Make
a note of the column number, which should be clearly visible, and ring
that in along with the road name. the Help Point staff can then contact the West Sussex County Council
contractor who will endeavour to fix it promptly. Where
a column number is not evident please give the Help Point staff clear
instructions as to the location of the light.
How
can I get a Bus Pass?
Everyone
over 60
is entitled to concessionary travel. You
can have a Sussex Countycard
Bus
Pass and a Senior Railcard. For
more details on how to obtain these, simply call the Help Point on 01444
247726 or email.
I
would like to register the birth of my baby and do not know how to go
about this.
The
Registrar visits the Help Point twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays
between 3.00pm
and 4.00pm. They
can register births and deaths and you will need to make an appointment to
see them. Call the Help Point to find out how to make an appointment.
There
is a pothole in the road outside my house. How
can I report it?
Very
simply call the Help Point. A
member of the team will take some details from you such as the precise
location and how deep it is. They
will then contact the Area Highways Department on your behalf and report
the problem. In fact, you can
report any problem to do with roads and footways. the Help Point Team will be happy to assist you.
How
can I apply to go on the Council Housing List?
Mid
Sussex District Council transferred their housing stock to New Downland
Housing Association in 1990. You
can apply to go on the Common Housing Register which is administered by
the Housing Association. For
more information and an application form, contact the Help Point.
I
am new to the area and need to register with a doctor and a dentist. How
can I find them?
The
West Sussex Primary Care Trust produces a leaflet called 'Your Guide to
Local Health Services'. the Help Point stocks these leaflets plus many more to help you find out more
about the local area.
Where
can I find out whether I am entitled to Housing Benefit?
A
housing benefit officer from Mid Sussex District Council holds a surgery
twice a week at the Help Point on Tuesdays and Thursdays between
9.00am-12.30pm. No
appointments are necessary. Just
pop in!
I
am thinking of having an extension built. Where
can I find out whether I need planning permission?
The
Local Planning Authority covering Burgess Hill is Mid Sussex District
Council. A Planning

10.00am-12.00pm. They are
