Do
you look after a loved one who, because
of their age, physical or other disability, cannot manage at home without
help.
If so, did you know there is
local
support group for carers where you can meet other people in a similar
situation to yourself?
Why not join in? No subscription is required.
The branch is affiliated to the Carers UK which
lobby for improvements for carers to ease the burden of full time caring.
Contact
the Branch Chairman John
Candler on 01444 232192.

for literature or general information contact Mies Brock on 01444 482640.
What
are your rights as a carer?
The
Cares Act 2004 provides carers with certain rights including
- An
assessment of their needs
- For
certain services to be provided by their local authority
- Free
intermediate care (such as temporary child care) for up to eight weeks
after a patient leaves hospital.
- Direct
payments, payment instead of social care and vouchers instead of break
services.
The
act provides
carers with more choice and opportunity to lead a more fulfilling life, by
ensuring that carers receive information about their rights and ensuring
their assessments consider
leisure, training and work opportunities. It gives local authorities strong powers to enlist the help of housing,
education and health authorities in supporting carers.
