Taxi Vouchers

As from 1 April 2006 taxi vouchers, which are available instead of a Sussex Countcard Buss Pass, will only be available to those who cannot use public transport because of a disability.  All  applicants (including those who are aged 60 or over, or those who have received vouchers previously) will need to complete an application form and obtain their doctors signature and practice stamp.  All taxi vouchers issued after 1 April 2006 will have an expiry date printed on them and will have to be used during that financial year.

One or more vouchers may be used for up to half the fare with participating taxi companies.  There is no charge for a book of 30 x £1.00 vouchers.  Only one book is available per eligible resident in any twelve month period from the date of issue.

To obtain the Taxi Vouchers you will need to provide proof of residency, proof of age or disability and a passport size photograph. Application forms are available at the Help Point or contact Liz Lancaster at Mid Sussex District Council on 01444 477304, email ElizabethL@midsussex.gov.uk.

TELEVISION LICENCE

If you are visually impaired you are entitled to a reduction of 50% on the Television Licence.  To claim the reduction send your original blind registration document by special delivery to TV Licensing, Bristol, BS98 1TL, telephone 0870 2416468 or visit their website www.tvlicensing.co.uk.

After 31st July 2006, you will no longer be able to pay for your TV Licence at the Post Office. Instead, you should choose from the many other ways to buy a licence. These include

  • Online by Direct Debit, either annually, quarterly or monthly. You can set up a Direct Debit online all you need is your bank details and TV Licence number.
  • Online by Debit/Credit Card, using a debit or credit card. You can make an online payment, all you need is your bank details and TV Licence number.
  • By Phone, using a debit or credit card. Please call 0870 241 6468 with your bank details and TV Licence number to hand.
  • At PayPoint outlets, using cash or a debit card. You will need to bring your licence renewal notice and keep your receipt. To find your nearest PayPoint outlet you can visit the paypoint locator website or call 0845 155 0404.
  • With a TV Licensing savings card, using cash or a debit card. Save towards the cost of your licence at any PayPoint outlet, or over the phone on 0845 155 0404.
  • By Post, by sending your payment slip (if you have one) along with a cheque to TV Licensing, Bristol, BS98 1TL. Please make your cheque payable to 'TV Licensing' and write your name, address and TV Licence number on the back. Do not fold or staple your cheque, and do not send cash in the post.

TRAVEL INSURANCE

As from 1st January 2006 UK residents travelling in Europe will require a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).  This will allow you to benefit from free or reduced-cost medical care when travelling in an EEA country or Switzerland.  

The EHIC replaces the E111 and is free or charge.  For further information on the introduction of the EHIC and on how to apply for an EHIC, visit The Department of Health.  The EHIC is normally valid for three to five years and covers any medical treatment that becomes necessary during your trip, because of either illness or an accident.
