Burgess Hill Town Council - Council Tax Freeze for Second Year
Burgess Hill Town Council has agreed not to increase its element of the Council Tax for the 2010/11 Financial Year, the second year in succession. At a meeting of the full Council, Members agreed that the Town Council should take a lead role in helping to minimize financial pressures on residents in the present economic climate.
By a combination of prudent budgeting and sound management, the Town Council has been able to achieve a 0% Council Tax increase, whilst maintaining services and enhancing the Town Council’s role. The Town Council’s element of the Council Tax will remain at £63.58, which is £1.22 a week for all of the services provided.
Commenting on the budget, Councillor Andrew Barrett-Miles, said “I am pleased that through the hard work and flexibility of the staff we are able, for the second year running, to avoid any increase in our precept and at the same time improve the services we offer to the public.”
Chris Thomas-Atkin, Chairman of the Council added “Against the background of difficult economic conditions I am delighted that once again the Town Council has, though prudent management of its finances, been able to maintain its Council Tax charge at the level set in 2008. The Council constantly reviews its ongoing expenditure with the aim of ensuring that it continues to deliver a quality service with added value for our residents.”
