A long-standing local tradition maintained in the town is the Burgess Hill Bonfire Society procession, which takes place on the last Saturday in September.  All the bonfire societies in Sussex take part in a spectacular procession through the town centre which culminates in a bonfire and firework display at Fairfield Recreation Ground.
