REMEMBRANCE
DAY
The
Royal British Legion – Burgess Hill Branch will again be holding the
Remembrance Day Parade and service in
St John’s
Church
. This is
part of their continuing quest to involve the wider community and
encourage young people to attend the service.
On Sunday, 11 November the traditional march to the War Memorial
will start at
10.30am
from The Cyprus Road
Car Park and laying of wreaths will take place in the normal way.
After this ceremony everyone should make their way to
St John’s
Church
where a service will be held.
The parade will reform after the service and march back to the
Cyprus Road
car park.
Burgess
Hill Town Council’s Help Point will be hosting the ‘People’s
Wreath’ for members of the public to donate their poppy to the wreath.
The wreath will be placed on the War Memorial on Armistice Day,
Sunday 11 November. If you
would like to donate your poppy please call into the Help Point at 96
Church Walk, Burgess Hill from Saturday 27 October.
David
Truran, Parade Marshall of the Royal British Legion – Burgess Hill
Branch, said “I am very pleased that once again the youth of
Burgess Hill will be playing a large part in the parade and the service at
the War Memorial. I have
noticed over the last year that the younger generations are showing a lot
more interest in learning about the two World Wars and the conflicts that
have taken place and are still ongoing to this day and we are happy for
them to join us on Remembrance Sunday to remember those who made the
ultimate sacrifice.”
Councillor
Andrew Barrett-Miles, Chairman of
Burgess Hill Town Council
, said “The Remembrance Day commemorations in Burgess
Hill are very important to the local community.
It is vitally important that we continue to develop this event for
future generations.”

NATIONAL
TREE WEEK AT BATCHELORS FARM
The
Mid Sussex Tree Group has donated various native tree species to Burgess
Hill Town Council as part of National Tree Week 2007, which runs from 22
November to 3 December. The trees have been planted in the west
field at Batchelors Farm, the beautiful open space on the southern side of
Burgess Hill which boasts wonderful views of the South
Downs.
The
Tree Group aims to plant, propagate and promote trees in the heart of Sussex
and it grows its own stock of trees from locally collected seeds.
The Group is committed to increasing the number of trees planted locally
and promotes the benefits of trees and woodlands to people’s lives.
The
new trees were planted at Batchelors Farm on Tuesday
27 November 2007 when Burgess Hill Town Council’s Mobile Maintenance
Team spent the day working with volunteers at the site planting the
donated trees and thinning out existing copses. The Town Council has
been carrying out various projects at Batchelors Farm this year, in line
with the management plan commissioned for the site, including the design
and erection of a new bridge and work on the stream.
The
Town Council Chairman, Andrew Barrett-Miles, said: “The Town Council
very much appreciates this donation of trees, which will benefit Burgess
Hill residents and visitors for many years to come. This is another
very good example of working together with a local group for the benefit
of many.”
