Due to restrictions on large events, the Summer Festival scheduled for the beginning of June 2021 was unfortunately cancelled. We hope the Summer Festival will return in 2022.
The fun-packed 2019 Burgess Hill Summer Festival took place from Saturday 1 to Sunday 9 June – with 62 events taking place over 9 days. The Festival celebrated the wealth of talent and creativity the town has to offer and was co-ordinated by Burgess Hill Town Council with 40 local groups, businesses and individuals organising events this year. Event sponsors and supporters included Burgess Hill District Lions Club, The Rotary Club of Burgess Hill & District, Waitrose and Burgess Hill Girls. We are very grateful to them all.
Highlights included a welcome return by acclaimed professional theatre company The Lord Chamberlain’s Men who were celebrating their 15th year and brought their open-air production of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream to the lovely grounds of Burgess Hill Girls. There were some great events for young people with VR gaming, a Skate Fest and Roller Disco, plus a chance to learn how to make and present a radio programme. Plus a variety of music from classical to show-time through to 80s disco, a behind the scenes look at an innovative Burgess Hill company as well as a view of Burgess Hill’s brick and tile making past.
We had special events for children with additional needs and disabilities, and for people living with Dementia and their carers.
A variety of free and low-cost workshops and taster sessions were also on offer, providing plenty of opportunity to get creative and try out new activities. There was something for all ages and pockets – 48 of the 62 events were free or cost £6 or less.
We hope you enjoyed Burgess Hill Summer Festival 2019!
