HAMSVA
Our mission is to promote, develop and support charities and voluntary organisations for the benefit of the community. HAMSVA is an independent charity established in October 2014 to work across Horsham and Mid Sussex supporting local voluntary organisations and community groups. We offer advice, information and support; and facilitate the sharing of news, knowledge and ideas across the two districts.

We champion the role of local voluntary and community groups and ensure that their voice is heard.

HomeStart- support & friendship for families
Home-Start helps families with young children deal with whatever life throws at them. We support parents as they learn to cope, improve their confidence and build better lives for their children.

Home from Hospital :
a new service that will cover Mid Sussex, Crawley, Arun, Chichester, Adur and Worthing and Horsham. Age UK West Sussex will be covering Arun, Chichester, Crawley and Mid Sussex. Guild Care in Worthing will be covering Adur and Worthing and Age UK Horsham will be covering Horsham District. We will all be working in partnership to deliver the service which is funded by West Sussex County Council.

The service is for any vulnerable adult over the age of 18 who will be alone without any other support network available to them on discharge from hospital. The service will offer up to 6 weeks free practical support within their home after discharge from hospital. They must be resident in West Sussex.

Anyone can refer into the service, the person themselves, GP’s, friends or relatives, ward nurses etc. An initial assessment will be made to make sure the person meets the criteria for the service and then they will be matched with a volunteer.

As a result the need for volunteers to help us provide this service is crucial. Volunteers will be trained and well supported by myself and other coordinators. The need for volunteers is high across the county but particularly in Crawley and  Mid Sussex. For more information please contact Tara Hobden, telephone 01293 544144, email – tara.hobden@ageukwestsussex.org.uk

Positive Placements

Could you Mentor a Young Person? Are you non-judgemental, confident and empathic? Are you a good listener? Do you enjoy getting the best out of people? Can you remain calm when faced with anger and frustration? Do you have a couple of hours a week to spare?

The Positive Placements project (Mid Sussex) is looking for volunteer mentors to support young people who need to prepare for the work place.

Training and ongoing support given, you will be required to have a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check that we will pay for.

If you would like to support a young person in this way, or for more information, please contact: Kate Coppock, kate.coppock@ymcadlg.org or telephone 07881 013758

Sussex Neighbourhood Watch Search Teams were established over ten years ago primarily to help the police, when requested, to help look for missing vulnerable persons. This could include elderly people with medical problems who have wandered off, children disappearing into the countryside, or anyone who has suffered an accident in a remote place. If you are over 18 and fit enough for countryside walks (in potentially difficult terrain and adverse weather conditions) the Search Team are always looking for volunteers. To join please apply to Sussex Police, by downloading an application form from http://www.northsussexsearchteam.org.uk/.

The Gattons Infant School in Royal George Road have also asked for volunteers to come in and hear children read. Please telephone 01444 235071 if you would be interested.
