The Burgess Hill Recycling and Re-Use Guide provides information on local places to recycle, donate and repair hard to recycle items.

Asbestos

West Sussex County Council’s Civic Amenity Site will accept household (cement bonded) asbestos. Please call the Amenity Site on 01444 243041 before visiting to check there is sufficient space available within the asbestos containers. Please note that Burgess Hill Town Council and Mid Sussex District Council are not insured to collect or clear asbestos.

Bottle Tops

The Town Council currently collects Number 2 plastic milk bottle tops as part of a fundraising scheme for Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice. Bottle tops can be handed in at the Help Point.

Bulky Waste

Mid Sussex District Council arrange collections of large or bulky waste at a charge. This includes items such as furniture, DIY waste, white goods (fridges, freezers etc) and carpet. Please note Plasterboard can no longer be accepted and must be disposed of separately. Visit the Mid Sussex District Council website for more information.

Clinical Waste

Mid Sussex District Council operates a scheme to dispose of clinical waste. If you have clinical waste in need of disposal, such as syringes used by diabetics or incontinence pads, please visit the Mid Sussex District Council website for further details.

To report and remove dumped old syringes please report to Mid Sussex District Council.

Fly Tipping

Fly tipping is the illegal dumping of waste. For information on how to dispose of commercial waste please visit www.midsussex.gov.uk/.

For a fast response the Maintenance Team will clear where they can so please report any fly tipping to the Help Point.

Garden Waste

In Burgess Hill, garden waste can be collected for disposal as long as it is put in the Garden Waste Wheelie Bins which are collected by Mid Sussex District Council. On request, MSDC will deliver a standard household wheelie bin with a capacity of 240 litres. Application forms for the Garden Waste Wheelie Bins are available from the Help Point. Alternatively, garden waste can be taken to the Civic Recycling site.

For Burgess Hill residents who pay their Council Tax to Lewes District Council, please use the normal black refuse sacks. Lewes District Council will collect the sacks for a fee. For further details contact Lewes District Council.

Reuse and Donation

Reusable clothes, shoes, books and more can be donated to the charity shops located around Burgess Hill.

Stamps

The Town Council currently collects stamps as part of a fundraising scheme for Rocking Horse Children’s Charity. Stamps can be handed in at the Help Point.
