Mid Sussex Police

In Burgess Hill we are served by the Mid Sussex Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT), along with response (if you call 999) and also specialist units.

To contact the Police you have various options

101 is the non-emergency number for reporting intelligence and information

999 is for emergencies where a crime is in progress or fear of injury.

The police station is no longer open for drop in enquiries, there is a yellow phone at the station which connects to the police call centre.  The nearest manned station is in Haywards Heath which is open Monday Wednesday and Friday 10am to 4pm.

Inspector Derrick from the NPT addressed the Town Council in July 2025,  his report confirmed that Mid Sussex Was in the lowest quartile of crime in the Country, and while we have some problems, like all places, Burgess Hill is a very safe place to live.  He went on to say if he could remove 4-5 individuals from the town his work load would reduce dramatically.   It was always a very few number that cause the most upset to residents in anti-social and criminal behaviour.

He gave the following statistics

Burgess Hill – Last 3 months (Apr-Jun)

-3100 incidents – 610 Cat A, 163 Cat B, 253 Cat C
-170 with DA tag
-1349 incidents attended by Police (108 more incidents attended than for previous 3 month period)
-Of the 1349 incidents attended – these include 53 violent crimes, 92 medical incident/concern, 188 suspects, 179 road related incidents, 80 MISPER

Recorded crime in BH

-11.7% RY reduction in total crime
-28.6% reduction for Robbery
+11.4% increase for Burglary
-34.9% reduction in Theft (46.1% for shoplifting)
+44.6% RY increase for Sexual offence
+7.1 RY increase in Possession of Weapons offences
-0.9% RY reduction in recorded DA crime
