Burgess Hill Town Council worked with Sussex Clubs for Young People to organise a programme of weekly activities during the summer holidays for children and young people in Burgess Hill.
The free activities were provided by Sussex Clubs for Young People through its Streetmate outreach bus. The Streetmate workers organised games and craft activities which were enjoyed by local families in low income areas of the town.
A local parent, Tracy, said: “My kids love it when the van comes as you always do something different. It’s good you come every week and my children look forward to it.”
The summer holiday activities were funded by Affinity Sutton through its community grants scheme. Nicky Dodds, Neighbourhood Investment Officer at Affinity Sutton, said: “This is a great initiative which provides residents with the opportunity to get involved in free weekly activities right in their local neighbourhood”.
Burgess Hill Town Mayor, Jacqui Landriani, said: “We are grateful to Affinity Sutton for funding the holiday activities programme, which was enjoyed by many local families during the summer.”
Mid Sussex Children and Family Centres also worked alongside Streetmate.  Community Engagement Team Leader, Melanie Bragan, said: “We have offered fun and interactive pop up play sessions for under 5s and their parents.  Working together in this way has enabled us to focus on meeting the needs of the community and we are now able to support some of those families further.”
