Burgess Hill Mayors present and past thanked Chris Goldfinch, manager of The Market shopping Mall for the past 26 years, for his contribution to the development of the town and to the community in general. Not only has Chris managed a prime shopping centre, he has supported community events such as the annual festival and ensured that the town has been promoted far and wide.
A man with a passion for helping others, Chris has played an important role in supporting amongst other worthy causes, the Disabilities Trust and its members and has tried to ensure that their efforts are recognised in especially the business sector. He will also be remembered for introducing Silver Sunday to Burgess Hill – a concept that has spread throughout the district.
Members from Rotary and other service clubs paid tribute to Chris at a civic reception held in his honour. Mayor Jacqui Landriani thanked him for all his efforts in promoting the town through the Town Centre Partnership and in particular for his contribution towards making Burgess Hill a Dementia Friendly town.  Past Council Chairman Chris Thomas Atkin thanked Chris for his support while past Mayor Anne Jones  MBE spoke highly of his efforts in promoting the interests of various charities and for his hands on approach.
Responding Chris said that he had always enjoyed his job and as such it had become a hobby he was paid for. While he will miss something he has spent half his working life doing, he has no intentions of sitting down and relaxing and the town can rest assured that he will continue to support wherever he can.
