Summer Fayre

Burgess Hill Summer Fayre Returns!

Burgess Hill Town Council will be bringing back the Summer Fayre on Sunday 25 June, from 11am – 3pm. This event is a staple of the town calendar, and we cannot wait to welcome everyone back this year!

Five local primary schools: London Meed, Southway, Manorfield, Sheddingdean and Birchwood Grove will be walking in the children’s parade, led by Burgess Hill Marching Youth. All schools will be holding their very own flower lanterns. Working with local community arts charity, Same Sky, the schools have worked hard to create their lanterns. The parade will begin at 11am, and will walk a loop of the park to open the event.

Once the event has opened in style, there will be plenty to see and do! With over forty stall holders, there’ll be something for every taste. You could learn a new skill, from baton twirling, to Makaton; or support a small business, with many local enterprises in attendance! Community groups and charities will also be holding stalls at the event, with fun activities for families to help raise some much-needed funds!
You can stay all day with lots of lunch options available too! From BBQ to pizza, attendees are encouraged to bring picnic blankets and chairs to enjoy the sunshine and have a snack!

Attendees this year are being encouraged to bring more than just their picnic with them. Food donations are being sought, to be split between the Burgess Hill Community Food Bank and the Burgess Hill Pantry. Food items encouraged are: coffee, tinned meat, tinned fish, tinned custard, jam, tinned vegetables, pasta, peanut butter, pasta sauce and chocolate spread. Food donations can be dropped off in the Cricket Pavilion.

There will be the opportunity to try your luck at the coconut shy, or try to hook-a-teddy at the fairground! Once you’ve proved your skills, you can relax with some crafts run by Burgess Hill Youth. The model railway will be returning this year, for the train buffs. If that wasn’t enough, there’s even a free inflatable assault course for you to race against your friends! Kids will have endless options!

In the performance area, local groups will have the chance to show off their talents, with shows from Walkhouse School of Dance, the Triangle Leisure Centre’s Acro Team and more! In between performances, there will be the opportunity for you to become the star of the show, with free DJ workshops – try your hand at the decks and see what you can do. Also performing throughout the day will be The Flying Buttresses, with Bill Oddity’s Bewildered Beasts. A menagerie of the imaginary, the star of this show is Pongo – the world’s only chocolate egg laying, seven-foot tall, baby fudgerigar! Children can meet Pongo, and learn how to talk to him!

The Summer Fayre even has something for our four-legged friends, this year. Run by the fabulous Heath Vets, the Summer Fayre’s first ever dog show will be running from 12 – 2pm. With five categories to choose from: Perfect Puppy (under 18 months), Most Handsome Hound, Prettiest Pooch, Best Rescue and Best Trick, everyone’s canine pals can be in with a chance to win! Signs ups for the event are on the day only, and are £1 per class. Entrants are asked to arrive from 11:30am to ensure they have enough time to sign up before the competition begins! The winners of each category will also be in with the chance of winning ‘Best in Show’!

This year’s event will be jam-packed with fun and excitement for everyone. We can’t wait to welcome you all!

Registration for the Summer Fayre has now ended, and all spaces have been allocated.
