Burgess Hill Town Council aims to make the information we provide accessible to everyone including those with disabilities. We hope you will find this website easy to use but if you require any assistance please do not hesitate to click here and contact us.
This website is run by Burgess Hill Town Council and we want as many people as possible to be able to use it.
For example, that means you should be able to:
– change colours, contrast levels and fonts
– zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
– navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
– navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
– listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
– We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability: www.abilitynet.org.uk.
We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:
– most older PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software

Technical information about this website’s accessibility
Burgess Hill Town Council is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.
Not all PDF documents since September 2018 are correctly formatted so that they can be navigated using the tab key. We are working through this to be fully compliant but have limited staff capacity. We believe we have completed this task which is currently being checked during an audit.
When we publish new content we will make sure it reaches accessibility requirements.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
PDFs and other documents
Some of our PDFs and Word documents are essential to providing our services. For example, we have forms published as PDF and Word documents. This fails the criteria WCAG 2.4.10. We are working through these to be fully compliant but have limited staff capacity. We believe we have completed this task which is currently being checked during an audit.
The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.
Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.
If you require a document that is not formatted properly please contact us by telephone on 01444 247726 or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
We do not plan to add captions to live video zoom meetings or live stream events because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.
Preparation of this accessibility statement
This statement was prepared on 22 September 2020. This website is currently undergoing an Accessibility Audit which is being carried out by Burgess Hill Town Council.
A large sample of pages are being tested. We have considered the different type of pages that make up the site and are testing a selection of all aspects.
You can read the full accessibility test report, when completed for 2022, on request, please email email@example.com.
